Historic barn
with fancy silver cupola
Howard Fritzler broke out
this Buchanan place in 1903. As all land on Upper Sage Creek, it
was bought from the Shoshone Irrigation Project under Reclamation act of
1902. The Cody Canal was completed in 1903 with water right #1042 dated
1994. Mr. Fritzler had a crop in but there was still no water in
the ditch so he went to town to talk to Buffalo Bill. The folktale
is Bill said "if we can't have water let's have wiskey"
and they went to his room and got drunk. During prohibition this
place is reported to have made moonshine but probably lots of places
did. Paula and Ada
Greever bought the property in 1934, Ward Ross was a tenant. Paul
built the pretty white barn with the fancy silver cupola in 1939.
They also purchased the Bowle's place and the Kaufman place. They
raised Belgian horses as a hobby and Hampshire sheep as a mainstay.
